We are a cooperative of women who offer a colorful variety of woven clothes and household items. Through our weaving we bring the traditions of our past to the present. We are proud to manufacture high quality products and unique designs from natural dyes. In addition, we specialize in muslin products.
We make your visit an experience. You will find demonstrations of dyeing and weaving alongside the finished goods. You will see the backstrap loom weavers working and observe how they extract the pigments through the cooking of flowers, leaves, bark and other natural substances.
We use many natural products to make our natural dyes. Cochineal is an insect that dates back to pre-Hispanic times and is used to produce various pigments. The cochineal is crushed into a powder to make violet, orange, red, gray or black thread depending on the manner it is processed. We dye thread orange with avocado pits, purple with logwood or palo de Campeche, and a blue-gray with the leaves of a shrub called sacatina.
