In Ixoq Ajkeem we are aware of the importance of contributing to environmental conservation. Therefore, we have specialized in the production of ítems from yarns colored with natural dyes and recicled yarn. We also use traditional threads in some of our products.
Our group is called Ixoq Ajkeem which means "women weavers" in Maya Tz'utujil. Since 1993 we are committed to protecting the environment and the producing high quality textiles.
The high quality of our products begins with the recovery process of the recycled thread. First we carefully check the items to be unthreaded. Then, we evaluate their resistance and select those that would give us the optimum material. We cut the knots that begin and end the cloth. Lastly, we unravel the cloth to reuse the thread or year. It is with this recycled thread that we weave new clothes.
Our products are distributed in several craft shops in the country, and since 2008 we have had a showroom in San Juan La Laguna, where you will find:
Those who visit us will also find a restaurant run by our members. We offer typical Tz'utujil dishes made through traditional technique using high quality standards. In addition to receiving individuals and groups, we can cater for events and celebrations. Call in advance to arrange a group visit to our unique restaurant.
We are accredited by Atitlan Azul to be respectful to the environment.
